Dear Volunteers and Clients,

In light of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, the Shepherd’s Center of Great Falls (SCGF) wants to reassure you that we are carefully monitoring the situation. We will let you know if our services must be further changed in order to keep us all healthy.

For now, we will continue providing transportation service to our clients. We will suspend the Friendly Visitor Program until further notice, but will offer Friendly Calls as an alternative. If you do not feel comfortable either providing rides or requesting rides, you may temporarily discontinue driving or riding.

In order to minimize the spreading of COVID-19 in our community, please follow these recommendations:

  • Drivers and riders should self-quarantine using the current CDC guidelines: if there is contact with an infected person or if you show any symptoms of infection.
  • Healthy riders should limit ride requests to essential trips including required healthcare appointments and necessary grocery store visits. Unnecessary trips or appointments should be canceled for the duration of this outbreak.
  • Drivers should contact the rider the day of the ride to confirm that the rider is well.
  • Drivers should not accompany riders into medical offices or stores, but instead wait outside or at home until the rider is ready to be picked up. This limits potentially unsafe contact.
  • Before a ride, drivers should wipe down surfaces the rider may come in contact with using a disinfectant wipe.
  • Drivers should practice ‘social distancing’ by having the rider sit in the back seat.
  • Drivers may be more limited in number for some period of time, so each rider should be prepared with a back-up option.

Please call the SCGF office at 703.586.9696 if you have any questions about these guidelines. If you are sick, please contact your physician who will determine if you need a test or medical attention. Detailed information can be found online from the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control at

or from the Fairfax County Health Dept at

We will keep you updated about when we can return to normal operations. Thank you for your support of SCGF and stay safe.
