how our ride service works

For Riders (Clients):

  • Non-driving seniors (55+ and living in Great Falls) apply
  • Applicants are interviewed by SCGF staff then registered as Clients
  • Clients or their family members phone in a client ride request with details concerning the trip (address, time, etc.)
  • Rides can be one-way or round-trip
  • Once posted, ride requests are viewed by background-checked volunteer drivers, who can accept requests matching their schedule and preferences
  • Driver picks up rider at the agreed time for the appointment
  • There is no charge to Clients for the ride – but clients are responsible for out-of-pocket fees like parking

For Volunteers (Drivers)

  • Adults (18+) who wish to volunteer to drive are screened by SCGF staff, which includes a background check at no cost to them
  • Once accepted, drivers receive training from SCGF
  • Drivers view ride requests at their convenience (online 24 x 7)
  • Drivers accept requests matching their schedule and preferences
  • There is never a requirement to accept a certain number of rides – drivers choose only what works for them
  • SCGF carries supplemental insurance in addition to the driver's vehicle insurance
  • Miles driven can be claimed as charitable contributions on state and federal income tax returns
